Coachers corner
This section is only visible to coaches
- Every coach brings something unique and we never want to stifle that as the players benefit from different coaches; the more they see, the more they start to create their own opinion and way of doing things.
- There are however benefits from coaching similar drills, using the same terminology and playing a Bayside blueprint
- We need to collaborate as coaches to understand what that blueprint is.
- Good coaching is not based on predefined plans or preaching to a group of 30 players but rather on pulling individual players out for a 30-second chat to work on individual improvements.
OUR VISION
To be a respected and successful rugby club with a reputation for providing exceptional programs and player development.
OUR MISSION
- To be a well-run club, offering opportunities for all ages, genders, and levels of ability
- Playing competitively and playing to win, whilst playing fairly and honestly, obeying the rules and laws of competition in both letter and spirit, and recognising that winning is only meaningful when competition is fair
- Showing respect for everyone involved in creating our sporting experience both on and off the field
- Winning with humility and losing with dignity
- Each team requires at least two club-identified coaches (u10-u18)
- Ideally one forward and one backline coach
- This is not a set rule if the two coaches can confidently coach all positions
- It is less of a requirement for u6-u9 and Seniors
- One coach will be selected as the head coach
- to make final decisions if the coaching team cannot reach a consensus.
- Coaches should be aligned in general club strategy, drills, and methodology
- What makes you a good coach is the ability to take a player to the side and help them evolve, how each of us gets the best out of all the players is the difference between a good and a great coach.
- By having different coaches each year, our kids start to make their own way by interpreting the different coaches' advice and forming their own styles.
- Parents on pads
- Many parents have experience with rugby and would be very helpful in assisting the main coaches.
- But to reduce interference, these coaches are there to assist and are not involved in team selections, practice plans

For training sessions
- BE PREPARED
- Clear concise communication
- Keep it short, don’t overcomplicate
- Explain why, and how it is used in a game situation
- Promote feedback and thought generation
- Be open and work hard not to have favourites
The purpose of this selection policy is to let players know how they can be selected and provide them a way to question next steps to being selected the following week.
General Policy
Players will be selected on the following criteria:
- The player must be registered with Bayside RFC rugby and in good standing with the club.
- Attendance and effort at training
- Required level of fitness
- Level of Skill
- Sporting spirit and general conduct
Notification of Selections
In general
- Mako team selections will be announced at the first practice of the week.
- Hammerhead teams will be selected on game day.
- Development teams players will not play until they are rugby ready.
Selection After Injury or Absence
A player who only misses one game, due to injury or other commitments, may be re-selected to the side which he played last. A player who misses more than one game, due to injury or other commitments, should expect to be selected on the bench or to the side below in which he last played.
Ideally it is best practice to replace a demoted, injured, or absent player with the player in the same position as this creates a growth path.
The club promotes open and clear communication, so player who questions his selection should first speak with the head coach. Parents are not allowed to discuss team selection.
Player and parent Expectations
The club can expect the following from the players:
- All players are expected to attend training sessions.
- Players will complete TeamSnap by 3:00 PM the day before the practice to allow for planning.
- Players will do at least 20 minutes of cardio three time per week on their own.
- If players become unavailable, they will notify the Head Coach.
- Under no circumstances do parents have any say over selections
- failure to comply with above may affect your status for selections.
